The emergence of food/restaurant apps has helped some restaurant chains increase consumer engagement while also revolutionizing premium food delivery processes. And as today’s Chart of the Day shows, these apps have seen impressive growth in recent years among a core target audience, those consumers who identify as lovers of food.

In fact, usage of food apps among Foodies has increased by around 70% since 2014, to its current standing of 34%. Restaurant review platforms, like Yelp, form an important aspect of this industry, particularly as Foodies are 25% more likely than the average to say they turn to consumer reviews when researching services/products.

But the impact of gig-economy food apps like Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Postmates in Western markets and the likes of Ele.me in China is also helping to drive figures here. Companies like these have quickly created a new market for high-quality convenience food delivery in urban areas and helped restaurants connect to even more consumers.
